German conductor Luis Schmidt has been Director of Music of Capella Edina, the City of Edinburgh’s philharmonic orchestra, since 2024. He co-founded the ensemble with fellow conductor Robert Ames and King’s Singers member Christopher Bruerton, making it the city’s first professional philharmonic orchestra in nearly 90 years. Schmidt gave his debut with the orchestra conducting Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony. This season’s highlights include Vaughan Williams’s Oboe Concerto, Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy.
